The Perceptions Group Pub and Bar careers programme has been given the top accolade winning Best Industry Initiative at the prestigious Publican Awards.
The glittering awards night took place on Tuesday 25th March 2014 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. The guest list at the event was a ‘who’s who’ of top pub company personnel and key industry suppliers with 1,400 attendees.
Perceptions Group chairman Keith Knowles said: “For me the highlight of the night was seeing the Perceptions team being acknowledged for their efforts.
“This is a fantastic accolade for the group and everybody who has supported the programme.
“We are urging more people in the industry to join us and change the perception of the pub and bar industry and help young people into fulfilling careers.
“There are some exciting plans in store going forward.”
The Publican’s Morning Advertiser Group Editor Rob Willock said: “Congratulations to the Perceptions Group on being named Best Industry Initiative at the Publican Awards.
“Its work to enhance the reputation of the pub sector as a viable career option for young people is already making a difference, and in time stands every chance of ensuring that first-time job seekers, their parents and careers advisers take this industry seriously and fully understand the opportunities it can provide.”
The judging for the Best Industry Initiative Award was a rigorous process. Firstly, paper entries were judged by a panel of industry experts. The final stage of judging involved panel interviews in London with senior representatives from the Perceptions Group by a team of industry experts, including journalists, top industry consultants and industry body chiefs.
The Perceptions Group was set up to fight the negative image regarding employment and careers in the pub trade. The Pub and Bar Careers programme is an innovative pre-employment scheme that aims to engage the young and unemployed within the pub and bar sector by providing relevant work experience and qualifications.
