Sarah Bromley, has been helping keep the art of pub signwriting alive at the Swindon based, family run brewery, Arkell’s Brewery.

Sarah, was appointed Arkell’s first female apprentice sign writer last year, and has gone on to impress judges at the regional ‘Somerset’ heat of the Dulux Decorators Apprenticeship Award 2014. The practical assessment saw Sarah demonstrate her wallpapering, stencilling and waterborne glossing skills.

George Arkell, Arkell’s Brewery director, said: “Sarah is helping us keep the tradition of brewery sign writing alive and we’re absolutely delighted that her work has been recognised.”

Beverley Whitehead, a spokeswomen for Dulux Decorators Centres added: “The competition is now in its seventh year and once again we’ve been highly impressed by the standard and skills of the apprentices. Everyone who has competed in the regionals should be extremely proud and Sarah in particular did an amazing job.”

Bromley said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have come first and, although it was challenging, I really enjoyed the opportunity to take part. I’m now focused on the final and even though I know it will be though, it’s great to take part.”

The final will take place in June at Lumley Castle in Durham, Sarah will compete for the chance to win the £1000 prize.
