Mitchells & Butler’s are proving apprenticeships are the way forward. For one of the leading hospitality companies, apprentices are their future!
Joe Buck, last year’s winner of the ‘Rising Star’ Award at National Apprenticeship Week, proves that apprenticeships lead to great opportunities.
The Apprenticeships Group Director explains why these awards are so significant to apprentices:
“The National Apprenticeship Awards recognise excellence in businesses that grow their own talent with apprenticeships, and apprentices who have made, and keep making, a significant contribution to their workplaces and these awards enable both employers and individuals to showcase how apprenticeships have made a real difference to their organisation and career.”
Keith Smith, Director, Apprenticeships Group, ESFA
Joe’s Story
Joe started his journey as an apprentice with Mitchells & Butlers. Currently, he is one of their top Kitchen Team Leaders at Toby Carvery.
Starting his journey three years ago, Joe has completed both Level 2 Hospitality Services and Level 2 Team Leader apprenticeships, which saw him work across every aspect of the business from Front of House, Back of House and through to Staff Management. Last year, he also completed his Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor (Food & Beverage), stretching himself into a management role and guaranteeing himself a promising future within the company.
After signing onto the course in October 2015, Joe’s Regional Trainer from Lifetime Training comments:
“Joe flew through the course and his work ethic and competence were heart-warming to an individual who is passionate about the industry too.”
James Birkett
Consequently, Joe’s recognition as a ‘Rising Star’ shows what putting your all into a hospitality apprenticeship can lead to. After proving his skills and positive attitude to the job, the award is a recognition of his contribution to the company and hard work he has showcased throughout his apprenticeship.
On top of his current success, Joe aims to progress further. He discusses his aims for the future are:
“Assistant Manager next year, gain experience as a Kitchen Manager, General Manager then onwards to a corporate role!”
