Hawksmoor promotes an employee who mis-sold a £4,500 bottle of wine

Mis-sold a £4,500 bottle of wine? What would you do? Panic? Most of us probably would.

Today an article in The Caterer revealed that Hawksmoor’s Assistant Manager accidentally handed out a bottle of £4,500 unbeknown to them and the customer.

However, they have now been promoted to General Manager and Hawksmoor have turned the mishap into postive PR. The steak restaurant group put out a light-hearted tweet which earnt them national media coverage:

“To the customer who accidentally got given a bottle of Chateau le Pin Pomerol 2001, which is £4,500 on our menu, last night – hope you enjoyed your evening!

Ellen Stott, who confused the wine bottles, has now been promoted to General Manager. Co-owner Will Beckett believes that her experience with dealing with things when they go wrong will put her in a great position to be a successful General Manager at the restaurant.

This goes to show that everyone makes mistakes in their career, but how we learn from them can help us progress further.
