Mark Hix, celebrity chef, restaurateur and food writer has opened the Hix Academy restaurant at Weymouth College.
The partnership is dedicated to discovering and developing the finest young chefs, restaurant staff and bartenders. Students will have the opportunity to received expert on-the-job training at the academy, working in a fully functioning kitchen, restaurant and bar gaining the skills and the high standards needed for a career in the catering industry. On completion, students will have either a Level 1 NVQ, Level 2 NVQ or Level 3 diplomat under their belt.
The College principal Liz Myles said: “The Hix Academy is the first of its kind, putting the needs of employers at the centre of learner provision and ensuring that students can learn from the best and aspire to the best.”
Hix, a former Weymouth College student will be involved in every aspect of the project, so students can expect to learn from the best. The Hix Academy is a fully commercial restaurant open to the public and run by apprentices and supported by professional HIX Academy Staff.
