The Casa Hotel, one of Chesterfield’s most prestigious hotels is undeniably a great place to work. Fern Jacques-Smith discusses her career at Casa with the events team.
Currently, Senior Conference and Events Co-Ordinator, Fern has worked at Casa Hotel for 7 years. She loves the diversity of the job, saying that every-day is different.
Early years at Casa
When she first joined the company, Fern worked as a reservations coordinator for two years. However, when an opportunity became available in the events team as a coordinator, she jumped at the chance. She had studied events for 4 years at university. Therefore, this was her real passion.
After working with the events team for two years, she secured promotion to her current position.
Adapting to a growing business
Over her time, Fern and her colleagues have had to adapt to a changing and growing business. In 2017, Steve Perez, the owner of Casa Hotel, purchased the Peak Edge Hotel which joined the Casa Hotel group.
The Peak Edge Hotel, is a family-owned 4 star, modern boutique hotel nestled on the edge of Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park. It is located only 10 minutes away from Casa Hotel.
Consequently, the two work closely together to provide the best service for their guests. Not to mention, the hotel has maintained its 4 star and 2 AA rosettes for its amazing food.
Being part of a local business
Notably, the vast majority of the team have been at Casa since its early days, inevitably providing the hotel with a family-like working environment.
Additionally, the hotel supports local suppliers to offer locally produced food and wine. This provides the hotel with a unique selling point. Plus, the majority of meat cooked is sourced from Walton Lodge Farm. This is Steve Perez’s private farm and located just 5 miles from Casa Hotel. Therefore, this ensures guests are able to enjoy the local delicacies whilst employees can enjoy the family feel of working for a local business.
Due to the hotel being independent, they have the flexibility to offer a wide range of excellent services to their guests.
